Hit-and-Run Driver Identified After Truck Accident in Cobb County

Hit-and-runs in Cobb County can lead to serious burdens for victims and family members. These kinds of accidents may be especially difficult to take, especially with the added confusion of a fleeing driver. Fortunately, police officers often succeed in tracking down these negligent drivers. Such was the case when a pickup driver was successfully identified after a fatal truck accident in Cobb County.

“Pickup Truck Driver “Expected to Turn Himself in”

In August of 2025, 95.5WSB reported that a hit-and-run driver had been identified by local authorities in Cobb County and that he was “expected to turn himself in.” The defendant now faces charges of vehicular homicide and fleeing the scene of an accident. These charges stem from an incident on I-75, which involved a pickup truck driver striking a semi-truck driver on foot. The trucker had just exited his vehicle after a separate collision with another semi-truck.

It is not clear whether the trucker ventured onto the highway or whether the pickup truck veered into the shoulder before the impact. Whatever the case may be, it is illegal for drivers to strike pedestrians and flee. After an impact, drivers must pull over and wait for law enforcement to arrive – even if they are not at fault. The charge of vehicular homicide would suggest that the pickup truck driver was at fault, however.

Georgia’s “Move Over” Laws Explained

Like many states, Georgia has a “move-over” law. As its name suggests, this law requires drivers to move over to the far lane when approaching disabled vehicles or emergency vehicles stopped legally on the shoulder. For this law to apply, disabled vehicles must have their hazard lights activated. If drivers cannot move into the far lane to give these drivers more space, they must dramatically reduce their speeds.

Failure to adhere to these laws is not only a traffic offense but also a clear form of negligence. As a result, drivers who strike drivers of disabled vehicles could face personal injury lawsuits if they fail to properly move over or slow down. This is true regardless of whether drivers exited their vehicles in an improper or incautious manner.

Be Careful When Exiting Your Vehicle After a Crash

Drivers should be extremely careful when exiting their vehicles after crashes. After a collision, you might feel somewhat dazed or “shellshocked.” When you’re in this state of shock, it is all too easy to exit your vehicle without considering the hazards of passing traffic. Sometimes, it is safer to remain in your vehicle after pulling over at a safe location. This is especially true if you have suffered injuries.

Once first responders arrive, they can redirect traffic and organize your medical treatment. Even if you’re not sure whether you have suffered injuries, you should accept treatment from first responders. You might also want to accept transport to the nearest hospital. If you fail to seek medical treatment after a crash, it might be difficult to file a personal injury claim in Cobb County
